Cocooned amidst the luxuriant andean cloud forest and surrounded by the breathtaking ridges of the Guacamayos valley, San Jorge Eco-lodge Guacamayos is a haven for tranquility and extraordinary biodiversity. Spanning from the Andean cloud forest at 6900 ft (2100 m) to 4200 ft (1300 m) below, each step along our forest trails is a journey into the core of biodiversity. Moreover, our birding lodge is enveloped by meticulously curated gardens showcasing an exquisite selection of native flora. Among them are native trees that bear fruits cherished by birds, enticing them to approach closely, offering ample opportunities for observation and close-up photography. Additionally, our hummingbird feeders attract an impressive array of iconic hummingbird species, which are highly sought after by bird photographers. LOCATION

Escape to our little paradise, where a little over 2 hours of scenic driving from Quito transports you to a world of natural enchantment. We are located 45 minutes away from Baeza town and 1 hour away from Wawa Sumaco town. Our birding lodge bridges the gap between the montane cloudforest and the foothill forests allowing you to explore any birding location in the area without having to engage in long exhausting road trips. In just under 8 minutes, you'll find yourself at the doorstep of the foothills, and in even less time, you'll ascend to the enchanting upper realm of the montane forest. The most blessed location among all our birding lodges undoubtedly belongs to San Jorge Eco-lodge Guacamayos.

OUR BIRD RESERVE

San Jorge Guacamayos ReserveSan Jorge Eco-lodge Guacamayos 300-hectare private reserve stretches from 6900 ft (2100 m) all the way down to 4200 ft (1300 m). Our extensive trail network caters to birders and hikers of various skill levels. Additionally, we've strategically placed three observation decks directly within the lodge, providing birders with the perfect opportunity to observe birds right from the premises. The trail close to our birding lodge was designed for birders and nature lovers who want to encounter a plethora of flora and fauna without having to engage in long hikes - the trail meanders through the dense vegetation around the lodge, providing encounters with colorful orchids, colossal bromelias, and mix flocks containing stunning bird species like the White-bellied Antpitta, Yellow-throated Tanager, White-capped Tanager, Blue-browed Tanager, Orange-eared Tanager, Vermilllion Tanager, Blue-naped Chlorophonia, Black-billed Mountain-Toucan, and many more. Yellow throated Tanager San Jorge GuacamayosOur "Chusquea Trail" goes all the way to the highest point of the reserve and its characterized for its abundant tall native bamboo (chusquea) that forms an intricate network that arches above the trail - the ideal habitat to look out for the Slate-crowned Antpitta, and the rare Barred Antthrush. Natural viewpoints along this trail offer glimpses of the imposing Sumaco volcano. For dedicated birding enthusiasts seeking an invigorating challenge, our "Jacamar Trail" lead you on an epic journey all the way to the lowest reaches of our private reserve. Follow this mesmerizing trail as it gracefully winds downhill, unveiling a stariway to discovery through a variety of habitats, each a sanctuary for unique and esquisite birds species such as the Grey-tailed Piha, Highland Tinamou, Sharp-tailed Streamcreeper, Ochre-breasted Antpitta, Paradise Tanager, Coppery-chested Jacamar, and the Amazon Umbrellabird.
