SUGGESTED PROGRAM AND ITINERARY
We have carefully put together the following itinerary for nature lovers of all ages.The itineray below can be customized in any manner to suit your individual needs.
DAY 1: Airport transfer from Quito Airport to San Jorge Eco-lodge Quito. Overnight: San Jorge Eco-lodge Quito.
DAY 2 - San Jorge Botanical Reserve - Medicinal Plant Hiking Tour: We will trek the pre-Inca trail into San Jorge's Andean Botanical reserve, we will visit 2 sacred waterfalls and learn about some of the 250 varieties of native medicinal plants in the region. Picnic lunch in the scenic lookout which offers fabulous panoramic views of Quito city, it's lush valleys, andean mountains and the volano peaks of Cayambe, Antizana, Pasochoa, Pichincha and Illalo. Includes 3 meals (1 boxed lunch). Overnight: San Jorge Eco-lodge Quito.
DAY 3 - Pahuma Orchid Reserve and San Jorge of Tandayapa Hummingbird Sanctuary: After breakfast quick visit to Pululahua Crater (the only place in the world where people live and farm inside an active volcano's crater. After Pululahua we continue to Pahuma Orchid Reserve to lookout for spectacular orchid species. After Pahuma we drive down to the heart of the cloud forest to San Jorge Eco-lodge Tandayapa. Lunch at our open air Hummingbird Restaurant overlooking feeders were up to 32 hummingbird species can be seen and photographed. After lunch, hike inside our magnificient prime cloud-forest to look out for various orchid species, vines, ancient trees, bromeliads, medicinal plants and colorful birds. After dinner, observation of nocturnal mammals including the recently discovered Olinguito and the Kinkajou (both species are only seasonally common). Includes 3 meals. Overnight: San Jorge Eco-lodge Tandayapa.
DAY 4 - San Jorge of Milpe Orchid and Bird Reserve: After breakfast, transfer to San Jorge of Milpe reserve, considered a wildlife paradise. Trek down the virging tropical forest visiting up to 8 spring-fed waterfalls and swimming holes (swimming optional). Enjoy the varied bird and butterfly species as you explore the dense tropical forest covered in epiphytes, mosses, tarzan-vines, walking-palms and imposing trees. Return to the lodge for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon birdwatching from our observation deck rising at 50 feet. After dinner, night walk inside our tropical forest reserve to observe animals, frogs, insects life, owls, and listen to the fantastic evening concert of the jungle. Includes 3 meals. Overnight: San Jorge Eco-lodge Milpe.
DAY 5: Breakfast and transfer back to a Hotel in Quito or to Quito Airport.
